In the National Office June
Let's find out who's who ...

Who's Who in the Office: Manuel Solano
Manuel is the heart of HIPPY, fostering strong connections with team members and using these relationships to drive positive change. With a talent for absorbing and analysing information, he inspires action across the organisation through collaborative leadership and genuine empathy.
Let’s hear more about how these strengths shape his leadership and impact at HIPPY.
Manuel, what's your role at HIPPY?
My role is Senior HIPPY Operations and Finance Officer. I support HIPPY sites and the HANO with all things finance, managing financial processes, preparing reports for the HIPPY Leadership Group and BSL Finance, and providing business analysis for strategic projects. I also monitor budgets, track funding distribution, and ensure compliance with financial controls.
A big part of my work is helping sites improve their financial processes and reporting. I enjoy working with the team to strengthen financial accountability and support the long-term sustainability of HIPPY Australia.
One could say my job is all about empowering our sites to do their best work by keeping a close eye on our finances, supporting strong processes, and making sure we’re always accountable and transparent.
HIPPY has four outcome areas. Which one inspires you the most and why?
Children. I’ve never worked for a program that involves children before, and I think it’s fantastic. If we can help improve the opportunities for children to growing up, we’ll have better outcomes for teens and adults.
Anything that supports vulnerable communities, especially when it involves children, is really rewarding.
You recently holidayed in Japan; can you share with us a little bit about your trip?
- I was blown away by the care and attention to detail in everything. The Japanese put care into everything, be it customer service, craftmanship, arts, and even the little gardens and temples, was all impressive.
- I was very impressed by how beautiful it is. I loved exploring different shops, from clothing and pharmacies to anime stores. I enjoyed the unique atmosphere of coffee shops and museums. Walking everywhere allowed me to soak in the sights and experiences.
- The Cherry Blossom Festival. It is magical. seeing the streets lined with delicate pink blossoms, everyone celebrating together, and the whole country coming alive with colour and joy. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.
