'Little Voices, Loud Futures'
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

Celebrate the day with us
This year to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day we have organised author and Ngiyampaa Wangaaypuwan woman, Jacqui Ruhle to narrate her HIPPY Australia storybook, 'Kuppi's Clever Surprise Plan'.
Kuppi is a little boy who has a great idea on how to share his love and respect for his nanna and his community. His family all get behind him and the clever surprise plan begins. Let's join Kuppi as he maps the places and people of significance to him in his community of Inala in the southwest of Brisbane. Kuppi's story delightfully illustrated by Naomi Lewis.
Kuppi's Clever Surprise Plan was written on the lands of the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul people, and I particularly want to express my deepest thanks for the Elders and the community members who contributed their knowledge and experiences to this project. I'm so pleased to be able to share this story with you, to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day with the theme of “Little Voices: Big Futures”

More about children's day
"In 1988, the first National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day was established on 4 August and was set against the backdrop of protests led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their supporters during the bicentennial year. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples felt a day was needed to celebrate our children, to give them confidence and make them feel special and included."
