Become a Tutor

Any parent that takes part in HIPPY can become a Tutor

Entering the job market can be challenging, so HIPPY provides support for parents to make this transition. Tutors are paid part-time positions where the parent is employed by the local HIPPY provider to work with the Coordinator to deliver the program to HIPPY parents in their community.

Tutors are provided training through activities with a dedicated Coordinator ahead of visiting families. They build knowledge about early childhood education, the theory behind it, and connect with other services in the area.

As part of their two-year role and to assist them post-HIPPY, Tutors have the opportunity to pursue training pathways tailored to their employment, training and personal goals.

Pathways to Possibilities (P2P)

As part of their two-year role and to assist them post-HIPPY, Tutors also have the opportunity to pursue training pathways tailored to their employment, training and personal goals. P2P is the framework incorporating tools and resources that empower Tutors to explore their own aspirations, with their Coordinator coaching and supporting them. P2P:

  • allows Tutors to think about multiple pathways of personal and professional development;
  • provides options for Tutors to set goals for pursuing employment, accredited training or professional development; and
  • gets Tutors to think about a vision for their future shortly after starting with HIPPY to maximise the time in which they have to achieve their goals.

HIPPY Tutors consistently report an increase in confidence in their capabilities from the time they started HIPPY to when they left as a result of Pathways to Possibilities.

When enrolling my son into HIPPY, I never thought that I would receive a job opportunity.

Acknowledgement of Country

We pay respect to past, present and emerging Traditional Custodians and Elders, and to the children as they are our future. We respectfully acknowledge the continued connection to the culture, community, land, sea and rivers on which we gather, live, learn, work and grow, and recognise that this was, and always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.

This website may contain the images or names of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have passed away. The artwork above represents the HIPPY program and was created by Tutors at HIPPY Alice Springs (Mparntwe).
